Purpose

ARAG is looking for a Business Process Automation Intern for summer 2027! In this role, you'll work alongside business and technology teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and help develop solutions using AI, automation, and low-code/no-code tools. A strong sense of curiosity, a willingness to learn, and the ability to think critically about business challenges are key to success in this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process Discovery & Analysis
    • With guidance, meet with business team members to understand existing processes, workflows, challenges, and desired outcomes.
    • Assist with documenting current-state processes, including the people, systems, information, decisions, and handoffs involved.
    • Help identify manual activities, repetitive tasks, duplicate work, bottlenecks, and opportunities for process standardization or automation.
    • With support from Distribution Operations & Enablement team members, translate business needs into clear requirements for potential workflow improvements.
    • Ask questions and gather feedback to ensure proposed solutions address the underlying business need.
  • AI & Automation Development
    • With guidance, design and develop workflow improvements using AI, automation, and low-code/no-code technologies.
    • With guidance, build and test solutions using tools such as Microsoft Power Automate, Power Apps, Microsoft Lists, SharePoint, Copilot, and other approved technologies.
    • With guidance, use generative AI to analyze processes, identify improvement opportunities, develop solution concepts, create documentation, and accelerate workflow development.
    • Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions to validate potential improvements.
    • Test solutions with end users and incorporate feedback into the final solution.
    • Document workflows, configurations, processes, and solutions developed.
    • With support, design solutions that are appropriately scoped, understandable, maintainable, and transferable to an ongoing business owner.
    • Follow ARAG technology, security, data privacy, and governance standards when developing solutions.
  • Planning & Collaboration
    • Provides regular status updates and communicates progress, challenges, and potential risks to the leader.
    • Participates in team meetings, process improvement discussions, and other applicable meetings.
    • Collaborates with business users and other stakeholders as appropriate.
    • Manages assigned work and meets agreed-upon timeframes with direction and support.
    • Complete assigned learning, research, or skill-development activities needed to support internship projects and apply that learning to practical business problems.
  • Measurement & Continuous Improvement
    • With guidance, identify and document the expected and actual impact of automation and process improvements.
    • Assist with measuring improvements such as time savings, reduction in manual effort, reduction in errors, and improved employee experience.
    • Identify opportunities to enhance or expand successful solutions.
    • Help develop reusable automation approaches and best practices for the Distribution Operations & Enablement team.
  • Other
    • Serves as a positive role model by representing ARAG at its Best.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge
Required

  • Basic understanding of business processes, workflows, or systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Interest in business process improvement, artificial intelligence, automation, data, and low-code/no-code development.
  • General understanding of how technology can be used to solve business problems.

Preferred

  • Coursework or experience with one or more of the following:
    • Microsoft Power Apps
    • Microsoft Power Automate
    • Microsoft Lists or SharePoint
    • Microsoft Copilot or other generative artificial intelligence tools
    • Power BI or other data visualization tools
    • Salesforce or another customer relationship management system
  • Exposure to business analysis, project management, operations, or continuous improvement concepts.

Education

  • Must have or must be pursuing a four-year college-level education, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and formal training in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Industrial Engineering, Operations/Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field. Must be in good academic standing with applicable college institution.

 

Experience

  • Previous experience in business process improvement, data analytics, technology, automation, or a related area preferred.
  • Coursework, projects, extracurricular activities, or personal experience involving AI, automation, data analysis, workflow development, or technology solutions preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, Associations, etc.

  • None required.
